Roots & Ruins
The project began with a hike through the Goyt Valley, where a group of curious minds joined us to learn how to capture nature through 3D scanning. Each participant collected small moments from the landscape—shapes, textures, and details that caught their imagination.
Now, in Part II, those digital fragments have been brought together into a shared virtual collage. Crafted by artist Nicholas Delap, the work offers a dreamlike, digital reflection of the group’s journey—an invitation to explore our relationship with nature, technology, and one another.
This project acts as a fundraiser for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, whose rewilding efforts aim to restore and protect natural ecosystems across the Peak District region. If you’ve enjoyed the exhibition, please consider making a small donation—every contribution helps to give back to the land that inspired this work.
A collaborative project exploring landscape, technology, and rewilding. Roots and Ruins is a joint project by PINK Studio residents Nicholas Delap and creative cooperative Gloaming.
Nicholas Delap is a digital artist whose practice explores local folklore, the ancient past, and ideas of rewilding. He creates immersive virtual environments, augmented reality experiences, and sculptural works that challenge human-centred perspectives and celebrate the personhood of the wild. His work invites a deeper dialogue between mythology, environmentalism, and digital space.
Gloaming Creative is a worker-owned cooperative offering an alternative to the traditional creative agency model. They value purpose, champion local economies, and take deep inspiration from the British landscape—working often outdoors and in close dialogue with place. The exhibition also features contributions from Gloaming’s extended network: a group of friends, collaborators, and makers whose work—commercial and otherwise—is informed by nature, myth, and place.
